Sea Meditation
[Scott Cunningham's Earth, Air, Fire & Water inspired this guided
visualization to bring you in contact with the power and wisdom of the
sea. It is one of the most compelling and universal symbols of the
infinite power of the Mother both in sustaining and destroying. The
ocean is such a powerful symbol that meditations on that theme are
widely used to get in touch with the infinite Universal external and
internal. Just be careful to respect the sea its fearsome reputation
is also well earned, in the physical and metaphysical.] Ed.
If you live near the ocean, go down to the shores to enjoy this
meditation. Otherwise a tape of the waves could help. I've done this
meditation away from the ocean without benefit of tapes by bringing to
mind the sounds of the waves hitting the sand. I then pictured myself
sitting down facing the ocean, watching as the waves roll in and roll
out.
The pauses are only suggestions for reading aloud to a group. When I
watch others in meditation, I pause a bit more often than I noted. Use
your judgment when guiding others through this. Be sure to share
comments once everyone is back and grounded after the meditation.
When meditating alone, read it three or four times, or record it to
tape. Remember to pause so you do not feel left behind. Since the tape
cannot see if you are behind or bored, you may end up making a few
copies before this method works out right.
Loosen any tight clothing, lie down or sit back. Take a deep breath in
through the nose; hold it to a count of 10 then let it out to the same
count. Do this three or four times, relaxing more with each breath.
[pause]
Now, with your inner eye look above you and try to see a light with the
energy of many suns. If you cannot see, then know it's there. Now pull
this light towards you, knowing that you are in control. Allow this
light to take away any tension you still feel. Any negative feelings
that you wish to let go, any sore spots or illness. First it touches
your head, shoulders, chest, arms, abdomen, legs, feet, toes. [pause]
If you are still tense, then go back to that part and try pouring more
light there to relax the muscles. [pause]
Take several deep breaths, listening to the ocean. Remember, if you
cannot see or feel something, that does not mean it's not there. Know
it's happening. Now feel the power of the sea, the water flowing,
changing, moving, know that this movement of energies can help you clean
your body. Let the vibrations, the power of the ocean pour through,
taking with it the worries of the day, week, and month. Feel your
worries washing out of you into the sands. Know the sands will be
cleansed by the waves. [pause]
Listen to the waves crashing, breaking, lashing. Know the waves are
talking or singing. Listen closely. Can you pick up what they are saying
or singing? Be one with the vibrations of the waves. Notice how you
feel. [pause] How has the sea affected you? Listen, to the waves as they
hit the sand. [pause]
Now, ask the sea if it might show you possible answers to a question. If
you feel you may, then ask your question. Listen for the answer in the
vibration, in sea life, or in talking or singing. [pause]
Now, ask the ocean if it is willing to share any of its mysteries with
you. [pause] Thank the ocean and say goodbye. Take a deep breath
remembering what has happened. Now slowly return, knowing you can always
bring back the memories of the ocean's vibrations.
